Item Migrant women as change agents(Department Of Sociology University Of Colombo, 2022) Hettige, S.TElse where (1990, 1991) I have discussed some of the social and economic implications of female migration in a rural setting. In this paper, I propose to carry this discussion further by looking at some of the far reaching changes that are taking place in the same village setting. These changes relate to intrafamily relations status and role of women and impact of migration on furtility and family size.Given fact that migration involves a large number of women, the changes observed in the particular village setting concerned may have wider implecations for the country.Item Unrest or revolt : some aspects of youth unrest in Sri Lanka(Goethe-institut-Colombo American studies associan ,Sri lanka, 2022) Hettige, S.TThe economic, social and political structures in Sri Lanka and the totality of the underlying value system which provides the society its cohesion and sense of purpose have in the recent past been in deep crisis. This has been the case in almost all parts of the country and society. While conditions remain in crisis in most of the north and the east, some normally has been brought back to the rest of the country through extremely repressive measures. It is common knowledge that is basically the country's youth who have been in revolt against the system. It is too early to say that conditions underlying the youth dissatisfaction in the country have been successfully eliminated.
