Sri Lanka lies at the cross roads of the shipping and air routes between East and West 880 kilometers north of the equator.The pear-shaped Island situated off the Southern tip of India, is separated from the Indian mainland by the palk strait which is a mere 29 Kilometers across at its narrowest point. With a land mass of 65,610 square kilometers Sri Lanka is about the size of Holland and Belgium combined.
