Abstract:
The paper attempts to determine the response of remittance receipts to macroeconomic shocks in Sri Lanka. No work has been done in this connection earlier. It was shown that when the currency weakens, the remittance receipts decline, and this undermines their usefulness as a shock absorber. Conversely, remittances increase in response to oil price shocks. Other useful conclusions can be drawn by this study.
