dc.description.abstract While it is an accepted fact that the remittance of migrant workers add significantly to the economy of the country, it is also pertinent to analyse the negative effect of such migration. No doubt the increased income to the migrants’ families goes a long way in alleviating the economic hardships faced by the families, but the consequent detrimental effect in destroying the social fabric of the family cannot be ignored. The social costs are high. Hence due attention should be paid in mitigating these adverse effects and finding alternative strategies to relieve poverty. en_US
