Abstract:
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment has within its mandate to provide for safe and secure employment for its overseas migrants. Recruitment agencies play a crucial role in this, and regulation of this industry is vital. To this end, the Government is implementing the Labour Migration Policy which states that the ‘recruitment aspect of the labour migration process will be regulated and managed within a framework of governance accountability’. Assistance and support to the Bureau is provided by the ILO in developing guidelines and recommendations to regulate the recruitment industry.
