Cyber cafes in Sri Lanka : Tamil virtual communities
Abstract
This article attempts to locate the formation of a Tamil virtual community in cyber space is a result of the use of computer mediated communication.It looks at how the Tamil diaspora is linked to their Sri Lanka counterparts and especially to what extent cyber cafes have facilitated this. The research is based on the phenomenon of the emergence of cyber cafes as terminals of linkage between the Tamil community and the larger international Tamil diaspora against the background of ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka.
