The phenomenon of green revolution in the agricultural sector and the mushroom growth of small scale units in the industrial sector are the two positive facts about the Punjab's economic transformation which have been widely acknowledged and acclaimed. The nature and determinants of the green revolution and its impact on the agrarian structure and the economy of the state have been well documented and analysed in studies like Thapr (1971,1972)Ghosh (1977),Alagh,Bhalla and Kashyap (1980) Mahajah(1983) Bhalla and chadha (1983) Chaudhri and Dasgupta (1985) Chadha (1986) Johl (1988) and gill (1988) to name only a few. But the nature and content of industrial growth in the state has by and large escaped the attention of researchers.en_US
