dc.description.abstractAbout September 1977,the government row in office made the startling announcement that it had decided to implement in five years all the proposals in the UNOP/FAO master plan for irrigation and hydro-power development using the waters of the Mahaweli Ganga instead of in thirty years as proposed in the master plan itself.The so-called master plan proposed the development under irrigation in the period 1970 to 2000 A.D of 900.00 acres of land of which 654,000 acres were still undevelopment and 246.000 acres were existing land (about 90% in paddy)en_US
