    Donor co-ordination in women and development

    The centre for women's research under its programme of assisting the Netherlands Government in the integration of women in development in the Netherlands funded, programmes in Sri Lanka organized a workshop on the 26 th of September 1988 at the Agrarian Research and training institute. The workshop was to provide a forum for sharing of experiences among do not agencies funding development programmes in Sri Lanka and to promote increased co-ordination in planning and implementation of do not assisted programmes for the integration of women in development.

    Migrant women as change agents

    Else where (1990, 1991) I have discussed some of the social and economic implications of female migration in a rural setting.In this paper, I propose to carry this discussion further by looking at some of the far reaching changes that are taking place in the same village setting.These changes relate to intrafamily relations status and role of women and impact of migration on furtility and family size.Given fact that migration involves a large number of women, the changes observed in the particular village setting concerned may have wider implecations for the country.

    Occupational health with special reference to women

    The health of the Sri Lankan workers has received the attention of both state and employer from the late nineteenth century on wards.Laws have been enacted to ensure the physical health and safety of the worker in plantations, factories, shops, mines and other work places. Within the last few decades,however with the rising complexity of occupations on the one hand and the increasingly repetitive nature of work on the other hand as well as problems allied to employment such as travel and housing the concept of occupational health has expanded to include not only the physical health of workers but also their mental and social health

    Reaching the poor

    The centre for women's research under its consultancy arrangement to the Royal Netherlands Embassy in the integration of women in development organized a workshop fo NGOs on the theme "Reaching the poor". The workshop was held on 18th April 1989 from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm at the agrarian research and training institute at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 07. In the background where development often by passes poor women the workshop was to provide a forum for focusing on the need for in creased target group orientation in planning and implementing development programmes and for discussing appropriate strategies for reaching poor women
