Item Adopting a cost-based pricing for international connectivity by Sri Lanka Telecom for international circuits.(1997-01-15)At present the only digital cable connecting Sri Lanka to the rest of the world is the SE-ME-WE 2 fiber-optic undersea cable. Indeed to day part of the economic theory that i will use was developed by Hicks in the 1940s but is even more relevant today given the explosion of new technologies and new products that have arisen from the semiconductor revolution and the working of Moore's law.Item Cyber cafes in Sri Lanka : Tamil virtual communities(2022)This article attempts to locate the formation of a Tamil virtual community in cyber space is a result of the use of computer mediated communication.It looks at how the Tamil diaspora is linked to their Sri Lanka counterparts and especially to what extent cyber cafes have facilitated this. The research is based on the phenomenon of the emergence of cyber cafes as terminals of linkage between the Tamil community and the larger international Tamil diaspora against the background of ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka.Item European networking for research and training in development EADI's experience.(1989) Auroi, ClaudeIn Europe there are a considerable number of institutions dealing with research and training on development issues. Even though the number of institutions is high on the contrary the number of network linking those centers together is rather limited. Gurung, SantThe centre for economic development and administration (CEDA) is a pioneering institution in Nepal in the field of development research. Since its establishment in 1969, under the tripartite agreement between his majesty's government of Nepal Tribhuvan university and the ford foundation it has been contributing to the policy makers through its research and consultancy works and of course through training activities.Now there has been a great proliferation in these activities and consequently there is a proliferation of similar institutions both in public and privet sector. So there is a greater scop and prospect for networking the development research internally.As for the external linkages, this center has remained a focal point for many of the external development organizations.Item Network experiences in development research Asian-pacific experience(1989) Getubig, L.P; Heyz, Jr.Noeleen; Ramani, K.V; Shams, KhalidFrom its very inception in 1980 the concept of networking was central to the mission of APDC.It was envisaged from the beginning that the center should constitute the catalytic hub of a multiplicity of emerging and disappearing informal networks.The center over the last few years has attempted to ope rationalize the concept in terms of new collaborative relationship which were established with a very large number of national research and training institutions in the region as well as outside. It was established in 1979 at the initiative of the countries of the Asia and pacific region and FAU of the UN.Its objectives are to assist national action, promote regional cooperation and act as a servicing institute for its member countries in promoting integrated rural development.Research action research, training and information dissemination are its main activities. Starting with 6 member countries CIRDAP now has 11 member countries. These are Bangladesh (Host Country) India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Thailand
